age-spotsAge spots
Also called sun spots or liver spots, they are the flat black, brown, or grey patches that appear on the skin as you age.

How age spots form
One of the side effects of sun damage is the creation of extra pigment (melanin) in the skin. The body makes the melanin to protect it from the sun’s ultraviolet rays. Over time, and after repeated exposure to the sun, enough pigment is made to create age spots. Age spots become more common as we grow older. They tend to develop on areas of the body that have received most sun exposure, typically the back of the hands, forearms, the face, shoulders and legs.
